Hello!!
We%26#39;ll be coming to bangkok at the end of march 2010 for 2 nights at the beginning of our 2 weeks journey around SE Asia.
We have short listed these 2 hotels but we would like input from someone who has been to both these places or has an idea of the locations. We want to focus on the history and culture at this trip.
Just a few queries:
1. How far is PN from grand palace etc?
2. Which of these is an easier place to get around from?
3. Since we are Muslims, is halal food easily available around these hotels?
4. Since PN is a little offset, is the area around it safe at night?
Will be grateful for a little help with this,
Cheers!

navalai river resort or phranakorn-nornlen?Phranakorn-Nornlen is not much different from the Navalai in terms of transportation. The PN is about 5 minutes walk from the Thewet Express Boat (pier number 15), rather than being practically ON the pier like the Navalai. They%26#39;re both about the SAME distance from the Saen Saep canal boat pier, which is the best way to get into the commercial centre of Bangkok.
The PN is a bit further from the Grand Palace. The Navalai is within walking distance of the GP. The PN is maybe just a bit too far to walk.
Sorry I can%26#39;t comment on halal food. There are a number of Thai Muslim communities in the area, so there must be halal food.
Both neighbourhoods are safe, day or night. Phra Athit is more touristy and has more western-style amenities. Thewet is more Thai and has more local flair, including the big flower market nearby. But that doesn%26#39;t make it any less safe.
PN, as you can tell from its website, is more New-Agey and quirky than the Navalai. Depends if that%26#39;s you%26#39;re thing.
