one week in Thailand

My husband and I are planning to spend a week in Thailand during April. I don%26#39;t want to do to much traveling, seeing as we have so little time there. We will spend part of the week in Bangkok. In which other ';must-see'; area should we spend the remaining days? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

one week in Thailand

Such a short trip, and you haven%26#39;t mentioned you ';need'; a sunny beach, so I hope you%26#39;ll split your time between the capitol and Chiang Mai.

You just can%26#39;t ';not'; like it there.

one week in Thailand

I don%26#39;t know Fourb; Thailand is pretty darn hot and humid in April and I think I would have to hit a beach/island area.

OP--also be aware that Thai New Year or Songkran is celebrated in mid-April so be prepared.

Hi Allison,

a week in Bangkok is kind of long, but there are day trips etc. you can do from there. You might want to buy Lonely Planet Bangkok City guide, which is a good reference for a week%26#39;s stay with good day trips suggestions.

However, I do agree with Fourb2 that Chiang Mai is THE place in Thailand to visit. Flights are cheap and easy. ';The Rose of the North'; is hold deer by many Thais as the Thaiest of all Thai cities, and who am I to disagree. I%26#39;d go as far as to split 2-3 days Bangkok and 3-4 days Chiang Mai!

Chiang Mai is more about athmosphere, activities and local culture than about sightseeing, although Wat Doi Suthep would be almost en par with Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.

For more info, just ask more specificly, we%26#39;ll help as good as we can.

Hey everyone,

Thank you so much for the info. We are supposed to go to Turkey during the first week of January. But we are now thinking that we will do Thailand during this time and move Turkey to the spring. I%26#39;m thinking that less heat and humidity will make for a more enjoyable trip! Thank you again.

Hi Allison/OP,

Lucky you, you%26#39;re able to visit two T%26#39;s (Thailand and Turkey) in one year?! Sure know how to make us jealous. I%26#39;ve always wanted to visit Turkey.

Anyways, visiting Thailand in January is a great time to visit though it will be high season. Northern Thailand though can get quite cool to cold, especially if you%26#39;re going up into the mountains so bring a lightweight fleece or jacket just in case or some clothers for layering.

Anyways, now is not too early to start looking at flights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, especially for budget carriers such as Air Asia but you do need to nail down an itinerary if you go this route. Also, sometimes the Rose Parade (no not the Rose Bowl) in Chiang Mai falls in late January.

Have fun.

jan is a great month for thailand but not great for turkey though istanbul is always interesting but jan is turkish winter and the last time i was in istanbul in the winter it snowed..
