Current weather in phuket (we are here!)

..and we were wondering if friday and saturday have been worse than we should be expecting for our two week trip and if the weather is likely to improve!

We were aware there would be some rain but it has been alot more constant than we had expected it to be, and would like to know if there is much chance of things improving in the next 10 days or so!

We wanted to do a few boat trips to phi phi, phang nga etc and will be a bit disappointed if they get cancelled.

any feedback would be great! thanks :)

Hi guys,

Are you at the Banthai? Apparently this weather has set in for the weekend, Richard said there is a storm area around Phuket now, they have no dives due to weather. I would NOT be going anywhere in a boat at the moment. Just go with advice from your tour operators. It should clear up by Tuesday... we hope. Went to Jungceylon yesterday, great place to spend when it%26#39;s raining, the facial massage places are in high demand here. 359 baht for 1.5 hours treatment and free makeup.

Plus plenty of shopping, eating etc.

Hop on a flight over to koh samui, it looks really sunny on the webcams over there, weve booked 5 nites in the middle of our holiday, knowing my luck when we go it will probably rain in koh samui and be sunny in phuket lol

we dont leave till monday week, Im getting really excited now have decided to not let the weather bother me and make the holiday more of a cultural experience (just means i,ll have to book another holiday to get some sun) take it you can still drive around in the rain, were hoping to hire a car and go explore.

just got back, on friday, we arrived in phuket on the 19th and had four glorious days then it started to rain, last sunday to monday it never stopped, after that it was hit and miss and cloudy but hot.

when we left on thursday it was pretty bad midday to the airport , lots of flooding from cape panwa.

there was never a sign it would be bad in fact the thursday am it looked wonderful but started again when we were in the cab.

fingers crossed it cannot rain much more so hopefully it will pick up, id like to know is this heavier than normal or is sept a bad month.

id book samui next time at this time of year.

SL by statistics September is the highest rainfall month of the year for Phuket, based on past years averages about 417mm per month ( compare that with about 70mm in December ) , Koh samui September though averages about 113 mm per month, but, Samui is busy in September and is a busy season because of that very reason. Come November different story when Samui averages about 525mm and Phuket down to about 188mm.

When we lived in Phuket this time of year was always %26#39;known%26#39; as wet.

Yet another apparent drowning today, this time at Karon, cannot understand people heading into the the sea with weather like this:

phuketwan.com/tourism/…

Phuketwan quote from that link:

'; Calls for the closure of popular Phuket beaches on unsafe days, with swimming banned entirely, are expected to intensify after today%26#39;s tragedy.

Virtually every weekend this year on Phuket during the monsoon %26#39;%26#39;Summer%26#39;%26#39; season has brought one or more drownings.

Critics have questioned the marketing push to project Phuket as a year-round destination when safety on the most popular west coast beaches remains so uncertain ';

Do take extreme care and watch for those red Flags, plus use common sense.

Thanks monica , the reason i asked was in our first visit to phuket it prob rained a bit every day but it was short rain falls and at night quite stormy that was the back end of july.

This year it appeared little rain had come prior to our stay and then absoutely nothing but sunny skies for 4 days, but from last sunday it was pretty constant so i was wondering if that difference of one month made a lot of difference- clearly it had.

To the people that are there it will clear but id avoid boat trips to the phi phi islands until its more settled as you may not get a refund if they cancel the boat trip.

if it doesnt appear to get better you could perhaps consider going over to samui for a few days and booking via a local agent it shouldnt be to expensive , although hotel prices for the better hotels are higher on samui as its there peak season.

July averages about 284 mm so quite a difference with September ( 417 ) october ( 350 ) but I think bigger issue than the rain is the sea conditions, Phuketrex has just posted photos from this afternoon at karon where people are %26#39;still%26#39; going into strong seas and not apparently heeding the dire warning.

Why do they do it !

weather is weather and as you know unpredictable...the official 30 year rainfall averages indicate September is the highest rainfall month in phuket (417) with October the second worse (350)...the least rainfall month is February (29)....Mikey
