Koh Kret - How do I get there?

I have read some interestign articles about Koh Kret, the small island on the Chao Phraya River.

Can anyone tell me how i actually get there?

Koh Kret - How do I get there?

www.chaophrayaboat.co.th operate a weekend only tourist boat service to Koh Kred, the best time to visit. Bus 166 (air-con) runs from Lumpini Park via Victory Monument to Pakkred Town, and I think bus 505 also from Victory Monument. Once at Pakkred Town, under the overpass, look for a small Tesco Lotus, the road beside it (Suprachasan 3 Road) leads to a temple at the end of the road (take a samlor- three wheel bike). Turn left where the road turns by the temple, then go into the first entrance on the right. Walk through to the river bank and you;ll see a ferry - 3 baht to cross to Koh Kred.

You could also take a van from Victory Monument to Pakkred, or an express boat to Nonthaburi then a taxi.

Koh Kret - How do I get there?

We loved our trip to Koh Kret a couple of years ago. It%26#39;s a great place for shopping too, as everything is very cheap.

We successfully caught a cab from Nonthaburi to the temple opposite the island (the ferry goes from here). The only heart-in-mouth moment was trying to explain to the cab driver on the way back, that we wanted to be taken to Nonthaburi. Maybe the cabbie was just pulling our leg and pretending not to understand my mashed up pronunciation as we arrived safely at the pier. The cab ride cost about 100baht.

Pakkred town has a big market under the bridge next to the river, with everything priced cheaply. Nearby in Sukprachasan 2 Road (opposite side from Sukprachasan Road 3 Road) you can visit Wat Ku (pronounced Wat Goo), and that road is locally called Soi Wat Goo. Wat Ku has a huge reclining Buddha on the left as you enter the temple grounds, and behind it is an old Royal Barge that sunk in the river drowning the Royal Consort and her children. Locals light incense and rub the boat for luck. Behind the main temple buildings is a large Thai style shrine to the Royal Consort which is repupted to be haunted. You can get to Wat Ku from Pakkred town by motorcycle taxi or the sontaews that run along Sukprachasan 2 Road. The temple has a large white wall.

dragonc............ interesting piece about Pakred and the Royal Consort (Princess Saovabhark Nariratana) I didnt know this piece of Thai history.

Thank You

The reason she and her children drowned was that at that time it was a capital offence to touch the royal person, therefore the boatmen thought that they would be executed if they rescued them. There is also a monument to them in the gardens of the Royal Palace at Bang Pa-in.
