Bangkok and Phuket

Hi all

Ok ive finally booked it for december. me and my partner are going to Bel Aire for 3 nights and then onto centara karon for 10 nights.

As this is our first trip i am trying to get together a plan of what to see and where to go in bangkok. Any recommendations?? site seeing and also restaurents and bars. also does anybody have a map which will help us get around?

We picked the bel air as we were told it was in a good location close to the sky train, how user friendly is the sky train? or is it best to get taxis?.

Also any advice on top trips from Phuket, i really want to see Phi Phi island is this cheaper to book with local tour company or through the hotel?

Also this may be stupid question but we have never been to thailand. Are the areas of both hotels safe to walk around in at night i.e. stroll along the beach etc?. the last two holidays we went on had some very unpleasent experiences (Egypt and Gambia)

Any advice welcome

Thanks

joycey

Thailand is one of the safest destinations for tourists. Walking along a beach at night is not always a good idea, but just about anywhere else is fairly safe if you practice the same common sense as you would at home.

The skytrain is very user friendly and lots of information (including website) in English. Read the ';Top Bangkok Questions'; on the top right of this page for lots of answers, including this:

Taxis are only for places or times the boats and train don%26#39;t operate.

As for sightseeing in Bangkok, we get asked that everyday :) so a search of the furms will give you enough ideas to fill a month, but here are some starters:

Grand Palace %26amp; Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha)

Wat Arun

National Museum

City Pillar Shrine

Golden Mount

Golden Buddha

Giant Swig

JIm Thompson House

Suan Pakkard Palace

Vinmanmek Palace

Anada Throne Hall

Bangkok Cultural %26amp; Art Center

Trip Along The Chao Phrya River

I stayed at Centara Karon. You can walk around in the evening safely as all the streets are rather busy.

I booked a Phi Phi island trip with Simba. I emailed them whilst i was in Bangkok and arranged a date.
