New Years Eve 2009 / 2010

HI guys

Whilst I might feel like I’m being a bit unfaithful to my usual forum, I’m greatly in need of your help for our first trip to Phuket and for New Years Eve.

What are the most fun things to do in Kata / Patong area on NYE?

Do we celebrate NYE in Kata area, or head off to Patong?

Are restaurants open normally, albeit, with a premium, and then partying on the street and beach?

Were we are staying,

We have booked our hotel in Kata, Mom Tri’s Boathouse. They don’t have a compulsory New Years dinner, which is good news. However, they are having a NYEs gala, which in our opinion even with the improving exchange rates, is hugely overpriced at 19,000 baht / GP£350 / AU$720 for the two of us. Whilst we don’t mind paying good money for good deals, we just have this feeling that this is a bit steep and would have a better time elsewhere.

About us,

A couple in our late 40’s, like the nice things but are just good old fashioned hard working folk who save hard all year for our annual few weeks in SE Asia over Christmas / New Year. We enjoy local food, and love street hawkers as much as ‘gucci’restaurants. HE likes a drink, I’m the iced coffee bird. We like a bit of party especially on NYE, but ‘partying’ is not the sole aim of our holiday.

Really appreciate you thoughts and input

Thanks

Mitch

New Years Eve 2009 / 2010

Hi Mitch

Welcome to the Phuket forums :))

Otherwise for NYE I would stay at The Boathouse and move onto Kata beach to watch the fireworks at midnight. Many people flock to the beaches so it is quite social. All the hotels compete to see who offers the best fireworks displays.

Also there will be a large group of us including some TA members who will be celebrating at Kata Seafood Restaurant next to The Ska Bar, located in the southern corner of Kata Beach about 3 minutes walk from The Boathouse. You are most welcome to pop across!

There are also other inexpensive restaurants in this corner of Kata Beach.

IMO, Kata Beach is the best spot to be on NYE!

Regards

Chantal.

Hi Chantal

Sounds like a great idea.

He and me will pop in, sounds more fun and more to our liking!

Hi Mitch,

how could you dabble away from the penang forum.. you and esorlegin are the bedrock of that forum.

hopefully this is just a mere flirtation with the phuket forum and then back to the penang stable, where we revere your advice.

will be in phuket in a couple of months and try to find some useful info for your nye holiday.

my lips are sealed with the penang forum folk.

jude.

Hey Jude,

would love some feedback!

Hi I%26#39;m going to be in Phuket from the 28th Dec till the 2nd Jan. I%26#39;m 28 years old and will be travelling on my own.... any reccomendations on where to stay or go to socialise with others around the same age group.... bars, hotels etc.... what is the best plan for NY%26#39;s. Any advice appreciated being a newby to Thailand - Cheers, Simon (NZ)

Simon, as a you are a single male, stay in Patong, and party on Bangla Rd....nothing else will compare.

Perfect, thanks for your quick response :-)
