Birding and hiking in Doi Inthanon Park

Hello -- We (husband and I) plan to stay 4 nights in the Doi Inthanon Park area and are interested in birding and hiking there. We won%26#39;t have a car, so my questions are:

1. How do we access the park and its sights and trails? Is there public transportation or do we have to hire a driver? If the latter, will it cost a lot? (we%26#39;re trying to keep costs down).

2. Is it necessary to have a guide, or is it relatively easy to visit the park on our own?

3. Is there an entrance fee, and how much is it?

Thanks for any advice and information.

There are songthaews that travel through the park and you can flag them down. Their command of English might be limited so having your hotel write down in Thai the stops you want to make might help.

Hiking and exploring the park on your own is not too difficult other than language limitations. the further down the trail you go, the less likely you are of finding english speaking folks to set you back on course.

Entrance fee for foreigners is 400 baht per person and I believe per day (but I have never tried to come %26amp; go two days in a row using the same ticket).
