Ventienne back to CHiang Mai by bus?

I%26#39;m going from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani then to Ventienne to apply for a tourist visa. I know that this route involves an overnight bus, then another bus to Nong Khai then another tuktuk to cross the bridge. But coming back from Ventienne I hear that you don%26#39;t need to go through all that, and that there is a direct bus back to Chiang Mai? Does anyone know the details?

What time would the buses leave?

Any cheap and clean guesthouse recommendations in Ventienne?

there%26#39;s no direct bus from Vientiane to Chiangmai. you can take a mini van from Vientiane to Udon and connect an air con bus to Chiangmai. Any guesthouse in Vientiane can organize a mini van for you

Or if you take a bus from Vientiane to Udon. It will take you to Udon%26#39;s bus station number 1(downtown) which you have to take a tuk tuk(samlor) to the bus station number 2(on ring road) to catch a VIP bus to Chiangmai or vice versa
