We%26#39;ve just returned from a great trip, rounded off by a few days in Bangkok. As part of tour by Tourismo Asia our guide advised us that James Tailor was a reputable tailors (we%26#39;d already been warned by another Tourismo guide not to go to a tailor recommended by a Tuk Tuk driver)
Anyway after a long day sightseeing we ended up at the tailors and before we knew it had been suckered in, (our tour guide left us ,advising tailors would make sure we got lift home)
We kind of knew that we were potentially being ripped off but the thrill of the custom made stuff kept us going.
Garments were delivered a little later than expected and just as we were leaving for airport so no time to inspect. However, all looked okay, upon our arrival home we discovered mans suit only had one pair of trousers - our understanding was 2.
I emailed James advising 1 pair of trouser was missing and asking for additional swatches as I fancied more blouses.
After 4 days I have recieved a call to tell me I was confused and I%26#39;d expressely asked for 1 pair of trousers - I said that wasn%26#39;t what I thought - and so it went backwards and forwards.
The person calling told me I was wrong they were right and they had been very clear - i beg to differ - if they%26#39;d been clear we couldn%26#39;t be confused!
The quality of the clothes is okay, the mens shirts are really good but one of my blouses bursts at the arm on first wear and I can see the hem on my trouses when I look in a mirror
- which is less than good. In fact based on another review i saw here - don%26#39;t get ladies clothes (the styles were a bit out of date!)
As a warning - i%26#39;d say don%26#39;t go, get an armani in the sale, but if you do opt to risk it - make sure you get them to write down exactly what you are getting as , as our experience shows all the trust is on your end - (you have to pay at point of order - not delivery or even first fitting)
I think I was more upset with the attitude of the follow up call than anything else but now we are a million miles away - what can we do!? - They must see us coming!
Watch out for Tailor services esp. James Fashion
I agree with the previous post: I just myself came back from a business trip in Thailand and experienced James Fashion.
A group of colleagues was sent there after being offered to tour tourist sites for a few bahts, the drawback being to have to go to some shops.
They arrived at James Fashion and were shown there that they were in the National Geopgraphic article about the top 10 tailor places in the world.
I was making fun of my colleagues at dinner telling them that the name of shop being cited in the article was probably now used by a dozen of other shops... nevertheless, I joined them for the fitting...and I wasn%26#39;t strong enough to resist an army of people there telling you they are the best.
Out of 14 people in my group haviung stuff done ( suits, dresses, shirts), only 2 were happy with the results. I had ordered a female tux with ONE button, it came with TWO. Since my friends were trying to have their stuff fixed, I didn%26#39;t even try for that. But the lenght of my arms were different, the sides were somehow lifted (like my jacket was being pushed from the inside). They will tell you you need just one fitting. It took 7 days, with fittings everyday, to have something that%26#39;s decent. The worst is that I%26#39;ll probablky never wear it, as the cut is very poorly executed. I could have gotten something with a much better fit in ready-to-wear stores.
In the end, they were not even coming for my scheduled fittings, they were just dropping my suit at the reception of the hotel. I would try it on, and call then.
JUST RUN!
Watch out for Tailor services esp. James Fashion
I forgot to mention something which is quite funny knowing what a great job they did (for our group...):
They will say they are soooo good, once they have your meausrement in their bok, you keep a receipt, and you can order stuff online as they ship worldwide.
Hum, I wouldn%26#39;t exactly recommend it...Just my opinion.
We had some friend%26#39;s kids pass through on a whirlwind tour of Bangkok and Pattaya. When we finally got a chance to meet up, they had already ordered some stuff from ';Famous James';. Surprising, of the four items that were ordered, only the one suit was acceptable.
Shirt sleeves were too long. Hems were misaligned, and the shirts%26#39; shoulder seams didn%26#39;t match.
Bottom line is that if a tailor is any good, they won%26#39;t need tour operators to bring them customers.
HAhahaa, I experienced the same thing. And really, Please please do not fall into their scam.
The first thing they will ask you is where are you from. And I told them I am from Malaysia. they said, Oh Good and even can speak a few Malay words.
They told me the price they give me is the best, And since I am from an Asian country, the price they quote me is lesser than the ones they quote FARANG. What a joke.
BEware, lousy tailoring service...
I just returned from Bangkok and was told by TourEast that I would not be able to get better prices and better quality from James Fashion. The tour company advised me there was no need to negotiate on the price as they are very competitive.
I went along not knowing much about tailor made suits, thinking that i would at least pay a reasonable price for my suits. I left having purchased 2 mens suits (with 2 extra trousers, a suit and two two ties) and a ladies suit for Bht35,000.
I was made to pay up-front, and offered only a lift back to the hotel if i made a purchase, which I was very disappointed with.
To make matters worse I was told constant lies during the %26#39;one%26#39; fitting when i asked any questions about the length or the lack of symmetry. I had already been forced to pay at the point of order so had very little option.
Finally the quality of the material and finish was ok at best.
The suit also arrived 10 minutes prior to my departure fromt he hotel, which gave me 5 minutes to try them on.
I have since stayed in a 5* hotel in Phuket and could have paid less than half that for a better quality suit with three fittings, and payment only to be made on collection.
I was terribly disappointed with Tour East for suggesting I go with such a %26#39;cowboy%26#39; outfit. I will be writing a leeter of complaint in the very near future!
'; The suit also arrived 10 minutes prior to my departure fromt he hotel, which gave me 5 minutes to try them on.';
This seems to be their trademark method!
I got it the at the last minute too. And they left it on the reception counter and I didnt get a chance to give them a piece of my mind for the late delivery.
For those who are going to Bangkok, just watch out for these guys. They speak flawless English is very professional in convincing customers.
I had mentioned the price and punctuality in the comments card - the driver who dropped off the suits read this and insisted that I had got a better price because I was of indian origin (sales person had indian connection apparently). This made me even more angry that they discriminate like this!
Did your tour company also tell you not to haggle the price, because %26#39;they offer genuine prices%26#39;? My feeling is that they work on a commission based on the value of the custom.
Also, the tour company insisted they take me there after going to the gem factory, even though we said were not too keen as it was raining heavily. They said they would even arrange a no obligation transportation service.
I only wish I had done my research in advanced rather then getting suckered in like this. I have spent more on this service than all the food, ents, activities on the entire holiday! Gutted!!!
want to keep this at the top of the forum for people to be warned!!
noted!
