Novelty/vintage Buttons for sewing needed

Hello I make button bouquets and love to collect buttons particularly vintage and novelty ones. It started as a fundraiser for our bushfire victims. I get buttons through a girl in Bangkok was wondering if anyone knows if there is a buttons shop/stall or sewing supply shop that may have a collection I can fossik through! My students love to make them during wet lunchtimes and they are getting expensive to buy here in Australia. We are staying at the U hotel for 4 nights in just over 3 weeks time............so excited to be exploring Thailand again:) thanks for any help !

This may be a case of the blind leading the blind, as I haven%26#39;t been to Chiang Mai yet (going November) but looking at the Nancy Chandler map, there are a couple of craft/hobby shops there: Warorot Market Area, Hobby Supply, Kuang Mane. And apparently there are several sewing shops along Chang Moi Tat Mai, off Chang Moi.

Good Luck! (What%26#39;s a button bouquet?) Let me know if you find anything - I%26#39;m keen on finding interesting buttons too, to create moulds for, for polymer clay/silver clay jewellery.

Hi thanks for the answer and hints ! I have the NC great map but will look in more detail in 3 weeks when we get there as 2 other stops first. If you google button bouquets there are great photos and a tutorial ! If you send me your email in the private message I can let you know when I get back in mid Oct. enjoy your trip

I was going to suggest emailing the Nancy Chadler office and asking if they know of somewhere. Nima is Nancy%26#39;s daughter and she puts the map together. She spends months in Chiang Mai doing this. If you look at their web page, there is a contact email. If anyone knows - they will.

Caroline.

Hi chocolatefriend....... interesting post and I will be interested in the end result of your search. I recently had 2 weeks in Singapore and went on a crusade looking for nice buttons.

Not so much vintage or novelty buttons but to change existing buttons on certain good items of clothing. Some years back I found a wonderful button shop there called %26#39;Mix and Match%26#39; but sadly because of the changing times this shop now sells all pieces of beads etc to make jewellery.

I did find a good button shop though which had shell buttons for 85c each.

Looking forward to more posts re this topic.

Mission completed ! Found only one really good shop used the Nancy Chander map as the guide where it said ';sewing supply shops line the street'; on the Wooroot (? ) Market page. Prices were ok not a bargain though and not as cheap as I get from a girl in Bangkok so I would lve to know where she gets them from so I could go direct ! Let me know if you want any more detail. It was so lovely to go to the Siam Celadon Tea House afterwards at the end of the street!

Hi chocolatefriend......thanks for getting back to us re this. How big a selection of buttons was there at the Worowat Mkts and an address please for the place in Bangkok.

Many Thanks

Hello no address in Bangkok, wish I knew it, I buy from a girl on line. Send me a message and I%26#39;ll give you the details !

Big selection in the shop it is in the street that runs next to the Siam Celadon Tea House sorry my Nancy Chandler map is elsewhere. Go over the moat/creek/outlet and it is just a few down on the right hand side. When you go in the door they are on the left wall in packets and also several trays high from the floor to the counter and some behind you too ~ let me know how you go !
