our first time where to go Patong or Karon Beach????

Hi everyone

My girlfriend and I are 28 and looking to go to Thailand for a holiday at the beginning of December.

We would like to do Bangkok first then spend some time in Phuket.

However we are unsure where would be best for us, we would like to go somwhere with a great beach, but where you can also walk around during the day and in the evening and visist restaurants bars and shops etc. Were not looking for any real partying but just a chilled out time with plenty of choice of where to eat and lots of peopole watching and great food.

We dont want to be completely isolated where you are restricted to your hotel or complex.

So the question is what resort would suit us best Patong or Karon beach????

Its our first time so any advice would be greatly appreciated along with any recommendations for hotels.

Hi, I would recommend Karon, as there is things to do, bars, Resturants and shops, Markets etc, but its not Patong, I enjoy Patong and its nice to go to as its not too far away you can get a taxi or Tuk Tuk in 15-20 mins there, and some hotels do a shuttle service into Patong, my favorite hotel is the Movenpick, but this is a little on the higher price bracket, or the Centara Karon is also nice. If you need anymore info just ask as Ive been to Phuket and Bangkok a good few times.

We have just returned from our first trip to Phuket and Bangkok we stayed In karon there are plenty of restuarants and shops around. But you are far enough from the hustle and bustle of Patong abut close enough to venture in to check it out. We stayed at the Centara Karon read my JBRs for more info if you like may give you some ideas

I stayed at Karon because we had young children. Given your age range, stay at Patong and tuk tuk fares between Karon and Patong will mount up.

Im sort of swaying towards Karon as we really want to chill out and relax and some reviews ive read for hotels in patong all mention noise from people and traffic.

with only being 15-20 minutes away we could always go there for a night out. What you expect to pay for a taxi or tuk tuk?

The centara is the hotel ive been offered but when i googlemapped this it does not appear to be on the beach which is a bit dissapointing.

We would also like to do some trips especially to visit Phi Phi island so any advice on trips would be welcome

Its not far from the beach, maybe a 10 min walk the Centara.

just one more quick question has anybody seen or stayed at the Sea view hotel in patong.

We are still 50/50 as to which resort to stay in and the two hotels we are being offered are as follows

1 sea view patong

2 Centara Karon beach
