Starting in bangkok then train to Chang Mai
Doi Suthep temple outside Chang Mai
Lampang elephant centre
Sukhothai
Si Satchanalai
Rice barge on Chao Phrya river to Chainat and Sing Buri
Ayutthaya
Kanchanaburi
Death Valley railway to Nam Tok
River to raft houses and trip to Mon villages
Sai Yok waterfall
then to days on Koh Samet island
On seeing my GP surgery they seemed unsure if malaria tablets needed, as said main tourist areas do not need tablets.
However is the raft houses near Sai Yok and jungle area of tourist area ?
also lonely planet says Koh Samet use to be malarial ?
Do we need malaria tablets ???
Kanchanaburi
Malaria medication in less than effective, and its not needed anywhere on the list you%26#39;ve given. A much bigger concern is Dengue Fever.
Kanchanaburi
There is nothing to prevent Dengue Fever!!
But thank you for informing me on the Malaria medication and that it is not needed.
There%26#39;s plenty you can do to prevent dengue mosquito, start with a good tropical strength repellent. This recent thread goes into a little more detail;

I know you can use repellent but i mean like Malaria there is no tablet or injection for it.
Hi,
First, I am not a doctor. However, I would take something for malaria and you need to look into this carefully. I shall re-post if I can get more info. As someone else suggest dengue fever is more of an issue. Sorry I cannot be of much help.
Hi again,
You could contact Trailfinders. I bought a ticket from there a few years ago and they asked %26amp; advised on the health situation in Thailand.
We did a similar trip and it was very hard to find exact advice on this as different opinions vary, so you possibly won%26#39;t. I did worry about this for some time. Most people advised - no we didn%26#39;t need malaria tablets for River Rafts (we were at the resotel jungle rafts) including the local travel agents, or for any of the popular tourist areas. In the end we decided just to be over cautious and took doxycycline (we had read about several side effects from this) but our family of four took it for a month and luckily none of us had a reaction at all. You could look up a local ';Travel Medicine Clinic'; or Travel Doctor in your area who may be able to give you more accurate advice. Good luck. You%26#39;ll have a great trip.
