Tailors

Only 5 weeks to go but who%26#39;s counting.

Want to get my son a suit in Phuket. A couple of questions. What measurements do we need and is it cm or inches.

Another thought, rather than measure him would it be easier to take the suit he wears now.

Whats the average to pay for a suit, and i%26#39;m liking the the thought of some silk shirts, what do they usually run at.

Tailors

If you%26#39;re son isnt going with you, would probably be best to take the suit and they can copy it - that will ensure best fit I think. Otherwise you could try emailing one of the tailors. We used Instyle %26amp; Manit has very good english so not problems with language difficulties.

Price will depend on fabric choice - but should be in the $200-$300 range. We only had cotton shirts done and they worked out $35-$45 per shirt- again depends on the fabric.

Tailors

My husband had a suit made by Instyle in Kata which he is very happy with. We travelled with some friends who also had a suit made for their son. They emailed the tailor before they left and enquired which measurements they needed. They then took the measurements with them.

The problem with taking an existing suit, is that you would then get a suit made to the same size as your existing off the rack suit, rather than made to the size of your body, which seems to sort of defeat the purpose of getting one made.

pricing of suits is a matter of great debate, i%26#39;ve got a few suits stitched in beijing, china for $100 USD, super 180s fabric which is really good. The store is a famous one where famous NBA stars like Charles Barkley have gotten their threads.

Anyways, select the material first, then negotiate pricing, never talk price first. In thailand, i think for less than $200 u can get a decent quality suit. if u r good at bargaining, i %26#39;ve read about suits made for $150.

One trick i learnt is, hold the fabric in your hand crumple it in your fist for a few seconds and then open your hand, if the fabric has developed wrinkles, then its gonna be a wrinkly cloth. Agree with #1, it will end up not fitting him properly.
