Kuala Lumpur to Phuket in how many days?

Hey, my husband and I are traveling around SE Asia for 3 months next year. We are flying from Australia to Bali and then our next destination is Thailand. But as we want to do some of South Thailand I thought it might be better to fly to Kuala Lumpur from Bali (which is seriously cheap) and then just travel by train / bus to the border of Thailand?

Does this sound like a good idea? And how many days would you recommend for this? Malaysia wasn%26#39;t initially on our to do list but we can spare a few days as it is on route to Ko Phi Phi and places near here that we want to see.

From here we want to go to Vietnam and then to China but I%26#39;m only at the start of my planning and wondering should I book the flights from Bali to Kuala Lumpur now?

Thanks in advance. Thank God for Trip Advisor :)

Kuala Lumpur to Phuket in how many days?

There is a train service from KL through Butterworth into Thailand (goes all the way to Bangkok). There are also buses running between the two countries, mainly (but not exclusively) to Hat Yai. However, you must avoid the southern Thai provinces of Yala, Pattani and Naratiwas as they are dangerous due to insurgency, (also parts of Songkhla can be affected). Tourists should not enter these provinces.

HI

Don%26#39;t forget that if you enter Thailand by land you will only be issued with a 15day visa, whilst if you enter by air you will be issued with a 30day visa. Take this into consideration with your planning.

As a Australian passport holder, you will, however, be issued with a 90day permit to stay in Malaysia.

Good advice from Dragon and Mitch.

Personally I would fly from KL to either Phuket or Krabi with AirAsia as those flights can also be seriously cheap.

Another option in the near future may be a direct flight from Bali to Phuket with AirAsia as I believe they may be opening up that route soon.

We have some pics, maps and stories of our trips through SE Asia here... www.bobandjanette.com which may assist.

Happy %26amp; safe travels

i think malaysia might be worth a week or 2 i reckon ,i personally prefer malaysia to vietnam and i prefer penang and langkawi to the super touristy phuket and phi phi in thailand but we are all differant...whats your reservations about spending a little time in malaysia?

Thank very much for that advice! I don%26#39;t want to be going anywhere dodgey! Would you suggest flying to Bangkok from Bali and making our way down to Ko Phi Phi this way?

Another person suggested that soon air asia are opening flights from bali to phuket so that would also be great!

I%26#39;m trying to not have to double track on the same routes too much but if it%26#39;s safer then that%26#39;s the way to go!

thanks! this is good to know as we are hoping to stay 30 days in Thialand! We are actually Irish and just staying in Australia so unfortunately we wouldn%26#39;t get the 90 day Malaysian visa! Plus we don%26#39;t have that long to travel which sucks! I could travel forever if i could!

Irish nationals also qualify for 3 months visa on arrival in Malaysia.

Here is transcript from AirAsia regarding other routes opening soon....

Thai AirAsia is planning to open several new routes from its secondary hub in Phuket as it prepares for the launch of its Hongkong and Jakarta services.

Flights from Hongkong and Jakarta will start from November 15 but already the airline’s chief executive Tassapon Bijleveld has signalled that the airline is also looking at Phuket services to Bali, Surabaya, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Manila.

By the end of the year, the airline will also add flights from Phuket to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, Medan in Indonesia and Vietnam’s business centre Ho Chi Minh City.

Hey guys thanks so much for that! I will wait until November to see what happens witht the Bali - Phiket flights! This will make things so much easier and less dangerous going near the South border! Thanks for the link to the website too! Hopefully we can have one of these after all our years of traveling!

nothing against Malaysia at all! If I had enough time and money I would travel everywhere possible! But I don%26#39;t want to go to too many places and rush around and not get to see things properly!

Thailand and Vietnam have been on my to do list for a long time so it%26#39;s basically a case of them being on the top list! But maybe 2 weeks... mite squeeze it in!

Hi

Sorry about the confusion, was not sure of your origin!

Just to confirm as a Euro passport holder you will also get the 90 days into Malaysia.

I do believe that the authorities will normally allow one or two exits and then issue a new 90 day permit or 15/30day visa (for Malaysia and Thailand respectively)

Have a great trip.
