Planning 1st trip to South thailand

My Husband and I stayed in Bangkok for a few nights during our honeymoon (which we absolutely LOVED!) and have been meaning to go back to explore the beaches and islands ever since (only 5 years). We are now trying to plan this trip for Easter this year and would like a little advice. From reading brochures, forum information and speaking to friends we are thinking of flying into Bangkok and then onto Phuket - staying there for a few nights, then moving onto Khao Lak for a few more nights, then onto Khao Sok National park for a night or two and then back to Phuket for a few nights before making our way back to Bangkok on our way home. I am after advice on this plan initially, and then on suitable accomodation if we decide on this route. We are really open to suggestion as have never been to this area before. We would like a complete mixture of experiences - diving/relaxing/night markets/restaurants/bars (but not into clubbing)/natural beauty and SUN!!! Also is Phi Phi worth a visit from Phuket? and are we missing something really important in this route? The type of accomodation that we are after is as nice as possible for a reasonable rate - £35 per night tops. Where is the best place to book accommodation? At the moment we are looking on agoda.com

Thanks in advance

Planning 1st trip to South thailand

Hi...Was just wondering when Easter happens in Wales...??...

Planning 1st trip to South thailand

Easter holidays run from 26th March - 12th April

Thankyou....Then Easter is the same time as Australia....!!....Because you did say Easter, this year and of course Easter has passed this year or maybe your questions are a little bit late or you may have meant Easter next year...!!??...

Whatever the case....I do think when you are going is also Songkran water festival in Thailand....which is high season again....!!!....Depends on the dates you are going...??....

Anyhows....I would suggest booking your accomodation for Phuket thru sawadee.com as we have 3 times now with no problems....They offer great deals...!!!....However,being high season, the deals might not be as attractive as low season....!!??...But,worth a try...!!!

As for Khao Lak,We have just spent a wonderful month there having the most incredible holiday.....

Nang Thong Bay Resort is the place to stay in Khao Lak if you want to be on the beach...It is very reasonably priced....Check website:nangthong.com

Fabulous place to stay...!!!

Go to the khao Lak forum to learn more about Khao Lak....

Koh Phi Phi is worth a visit,tho%26#39; do take the ferry if you want a more comfortable ride....Speedboat is faster but very rough conditions if the swell is up....A daytrip to Phi Phi is my cup of tea....!!....

Sorry....We are already in the Khao Lak forums....Duhhhh..!!??....

Anyway not only is Nang Thong Bay Resort on the beach,it is also central to all the shops and restaurants in Bang La On.....A mere walk up the hill or a free shuttle from NTBR will get you there.....!!

Hi sista-su,

Welcome to the Forum.

Here are a few links to suggested places to look for accommodation.

First Khao Sok:

For Khao Lak;

Bear in mind, as previously said, Easter is still High Season and is very popular, aprticularly with European visitors (school holidays).

At £35 a night you are probably looking at a bungalow resort, such as the one one we stay in (have to get a plug in for it!), the Cousin Resort in Bang Niang - see http://www.cousinresort.com/ (PM me if you want any details/pics for Cousin).

As for Phi Phi, sadly it isn%26#39;t what it used to be and that%26#39;s not because of the Tsunami. It was way over commercialised before then.

After digesting this, let us know how we can help further. Khao lak and Khao Sok is a great combination.

Hi,

If you have never been to Phi Phi i think it is always worth a visit and is easily done from Phuket. I prefer to go with a recomended comopany that only takes a small group and keeps away from the other tourist boats so you get a really nice experience have a look at Simba they are really good. www.simbaseatrips.com I think Phuket, Khao Lak and Khao Sok is a great combination for a Thailand trip. Phuket has some great night markets in Phuket Town ( Saturday and Sunday nights ) Kata is a very nice place with a nice beach and only 15 minutes from Patong by taxi for shopping ect.

Khao lak is my favourite for its endless beaches and its restaurants which are some of the best in Thailand and its also the gateway for diving in the Similans and Surin Islands. Khao Sok National Park is just a magnificent place with some awesome natural beauty. Another good site for you to look at is www.cathyandgarystravelpages.com

Thanks all for your help and advice. Am just looking at all the website links now and feeling much happier that we have made a good start on planning our trip. Just need to start booking it all now. What is a good price for flights to Bangkok?

Sorry for the confusion over Easter holidays cocotang because I teach I often talk in school/academic year terms (September - August) rather than January start.

Thanks again and keep the advice coming

Su

Its very difficult these days to forecast flight prices. They are up and down all the time (if you%26#39;ll pardon the pun!). Given that you are looking at a popular time they are likely to be higher than other periods. Try Netflights.com as a starter or Expedia or look on Kayak.co.uk or phone The Traveller UK on 0800 091 1513.

Confusion over Easter holidays...??....Sista Su...!!??...You%26#39;re forgiven and thankyou for your unusual explanation....LOL....

All I have to do now is wish you a wonderful holiday and like Julie %26amp; Alan...Khao Lak is also my favourite...!!...
