I would like to get some sun and beach time at Christmas but find it boring to spend 100% of the time lying on a lounger. Where can we go to get a good mixture of beach, relaxation and some Thai culture (with things to do)? We%26#39;re not keen on heavily touristed cheap resorts, but would be fine staying just outside if this meant we had plenty to do. Does anyone have any tips? Krabi? Phuket? Kho Samui? Do you have any tips for great things to do in your recommended place?
Beach %26amp; Culture Mix?
Phuket %26amp; Koh Samui are big tourist traps at that time of year, overflowing with tourists, and Phuket in particular is expensive against the rest of the country. Any beach will be busy at its peak season. Krabi would be a better bet, but for culture you should be heading north to Chiagmai and Mee Hong Son, or northeast to place like Buriram, Surin, Korat etc. I know we have great beaches, but the 76 provinces of Thailand have a lot more to offer than just sand.
